Offshore & Onshore Structural Design in Nigeria

Offshore & Onshore Structural Design in Nigeria

From the Niger Delta to the open sea: structural engineering without limits.

Nigeria’s coastal and offshore environment presents some of the most challenging structural engineering conditions in the world, warm saline water, high humidity, seasonal storm surges, and the corrosive atmosphere of the Niger Delta. Structural systems in this environment must be designed with exacting attention to durability, marine loading, and the consequences of structural failure in a remote and inaccessible location.

Masterstone Engineering Ltd. provides structural design services for both offshore and onshore marine and industrial facilities in Nigeria, applying international standards and deep knowledge of the Nigerian marine environment to deliver safe, durable, and cost-effective structural solutions.

Offshore Structural Design

Fixed Offshore Platforms

We design jacket structures, topside structures, and integrated deck structures for fixed offshore platforms, applying ISO 19902 and API RP 2A standards with Nigerian environmental data for wave, current, and wind loading in the Gulf of Guinea.

Jetties & Marine Structures

Jetties, dolphins, berths, and loading platforms require structural designs that address vessel berthing forces, wave and tidal loads, and the long-term durability of structural materials in a marine environment. We design reinforced concrete and steel marine structures with appropriate cathodic protection and concrete mix design for marine exposure.

Subsea Structural Design

Pipeline crossings, subsea equipment supports, and protection structures require structural designs that account for hydrodynamic loading, seabed settlement, and installation methodology. We design subsea structural elements in coordination with pipeline and subsea engineering disciplines.

Onshore Marine & Industrial Structural Design

Onshore Oil & Gas Infrastructure

Pipeline receiving terminals, crude oil tank farms, gas compression stations, and petrochemical plants require specialist onshore structural design, including tank foundation design, pipe rack structural systems, equipment support structures, and bund and containment structures. We apply NORSOK, API, and Eurocode standards as appropriate to each project.

Port & Waterfront Infrastructure

We provide structural design for port facilities, container terminal infrastructure, waterfront retaining structures, and harbour engineering, supporting Nigeria’s growing maritime trade and logistics sector.

Design Standards Applied

  • ISO 19902: Fixed Steel Offshore Structures
  • API RP 2A-WSD: Planning, Designing, and Constructing Fixed Offshore Platforms
  • BS 6349: Maritime Structures (Jetties & Quay Walls)
  • DNVGL-OS-C101: Design of Offshore Steel Structures
  • BS EN 1992 (Eurocode 2): Concrete Structures
  • Nigerian DPR Offshore Safety Regulations

Environmental Conditions: Gulf of Guinea

All our offshore designs use site-specific environmental data for the Gulf of Guinea, including wave height statistics, current profiles, wind speed data, and seawater temperature. We do not apply conservative North Sea data to Nigerian offshore projects, we design for the actual conditions your structure will face.

What offshore standards do you design to?

We design to ISO 19902, API RP 2A, and DNVGL standards for offshore steel structures, and BS 6349 for maritime structures, all with site-specific Nigerian environmental data.

Can you design a jetty for small vessel berthing?

Yes. We design jetties, dolphins, and small craft berths for a range of vessel sizes and load cases, including alongside berthing, mooring loads, and crane loads where applicable.

What is cathodic protection and do you specify it?

Cathodic protection is a corrosion prevention system for steel structures in marine environments, using either sacrificial anodes or impressed current. We specify cathodic protection systems as part of our offshore and marine structural designs.
